Program Details

Eligibility

We will only fund financially viable NSW community‑based and charity/not‑for‑profit organisations, including:

  • Incorporated community associations
  • Community trusts
  • Registered not-for-profits/charities
  • Social enterprises.

National organisations are eligible to apply, however the project must be implemented in NSW, and must be delivered by a NSW-based office.

To be funded under the Community Road Safety Grants, your organisation must:

  • be incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or The Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW) (the Act) and the Associations Incorporation Regulation 2016 (NSW)
  • have a current Australian Business Number (or have proof you have applied for one) that is not for a commercial entity or an individual.

 Ineligibility

We do not fund the following:

  • Private businesses
  • Individuals
  • Research organisations
  • Government organisations
  • Local councils (Transport for NSW already funds the Local Government Road Safety Program. Under this program, councils can apply for funding for road user safety projects)
  • Schools and early childhood services (Transport already funds the Road Safety Education Program to support schools and early childhood services)
  • Projects that already receive funding or sponsorship from Transport
  • Organisations that present road safety programs directly to school students or children in early childhood services (Transport already funds the Road Safety Education Program to support schools and early childhood services).
  • Projects which involve going into school or installing infrastructure (such as bike racks or signage) on school grounds.

Funding is not available for:

  • Salary costs of staff to manage the project implementation
  • Purchase of assets such as vehicles, computers etc.
  • Buying gifts for volunteers or participants
  • Projects to deliver off‑road driver training
  • Projects to deliver defensive driver training
  • Overseas or interstate travel, accommodation and sundry personal expenses related to travel
  • Costs of products or activities which are the core business of the organisation
  • Infrastructure, including infrastructure located at schools, on private property, or on roads managed by local councils or Transport, such as road signage.
  • Projects that already receive funding or sponsorship from Transport
  • Driving simulators

Transport for NSW funds the NSW Road Safety Education Program, the NSW Government’s leading initiative for educating children and young people about road safety. The program is recognised as a comprehensive, collaborative and long-term model that positions NSW as a leader in road safety education both nationally and internationally.

Transport for NSW works in close partnership with the NSW education sectors to deliver the program. This collaboration, led by Transport, supports the Department of Education, Catholic Schools NSW, Independent Schools NSW, and the Kids and Traffic Early Childhood Road Safety Education Program to provide best-practice professional development for teachers and educators, as well as road safety education advice and resources for early childhood services, primary schools and secondary schools across NSW.

Are you a NSW community-based charity/not-for-profit organisation? * Required

  • submission of this application does not guarantee funding will be granted for any project, and the Department expressly reserves its right to accept or reject this application at its discretion;
  • it must bear the costs of preparing and submitting this application and the Department does not accept any liability for such costs, whether or not this application is ultimately accepted or rejected; and

Use of Information

By submitting this application form, the Applicant acknowledges and agrees that:

  • if this project application is successful, the relevant details of the project will be made public, including details such as the names of the organisation (Applicant) and any partnering organisation (state government agency or non-government organisation), project title, project description, location, anticipated time for completion and amount awarded;
  • the Department will use reasonable endeavours to ensure that any information received in or in respect of this application which is clearly marked ‘Commercial-in-confidence’ or ‘Confidential’ is treated as confidential, however, such documents will remain subject to the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW) (GIPA Act); and
  • in some circumstances the Department may release information contained in this application form and other relevant information in relation to this application in response to a request lodged under the GIPA Act or otherwise as required or permitted by law.

Privacy Notice

By submitting this Application form, the Applicant acknowledges and agrees that:

  • Transport is required to comply with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) (the Privacy Act) and that any personal information (as defined by the Privacy Act) collected by Transport in relation to the program will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act and its privacy policy
  • the information it provides to Transport in connection with this application will be collected and stored on a database and will only be used for the purposes for which it was collected (including, where necessary, being disclosed to other Government agencies in connection with the assessment of the merits of an application) or as otherwise permitted by the Privacy Act;
  • it has taken steps to ensure that any person whose personal information (as defined by the Privacy Act) is included in this application has consented to the fact that Transport and other Government agencies may be supplied with that personal information, and has been made aware of the purposes for which it has been collected and may be used.

Eligibility Confirmation

This program will only fund financially viable NSW community-based and charity/not-for-profit organisations, including:

  • Incorporated community associations
  • Community trusts
  • Registered not-for-profits/charities
  • Social enterprises.

National organisations are eligible to apply, however the project must be implemented in NSW, and must be delivered by a NSW-based office.

To be funded under the Community Road Safety Grants, your organisation must:

  • be incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or The Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW) (the Act) and the Associations Incorporation Regulation 2016 (NSW)
  • have a current Australian Business Number (or have proof you have applied for one) that is not for a commercial entity or an individual.

  • The project may commence once the contract has been signed by both parties (the Grantee and Transport) and must be completed by 30 November 2027.
  • The project may continue to operate and be maintained beyond the funding period; however, all grant funds must be fully expended by 30 November 2027 unless a written extension request has been submitted and approved by Transport.
